Goats
Goats do Roam
9 July, 2019 by

2 years ago as support for the daycare centre a goat was bought with the aim to start a  flock. We knew that it would be a slow process but over the years we have had donations and slowly we have built the herd up to 35 (25 are owned by the daycare centre and 10 by Robert).

The goats provide a source of income through their sale for food and celebration as per the culture.

Love Africa Youth supports the herd through feed and medication.

Goats need regular medication for liver fluke, worms and orf and we vaccinate every 6 weeks to prevent these.

At the beginning of the year, a ram was donated as the last one had been sold (it had covered all the goats and things would start getting incestuous!) and has been very successful with 19 kids being born early in July.

The kids are super cute!

Did you know?

A group of goats is called a tribe.

The proper collective noun for a group of goats differs from similar animals. For example, a group of sheep is known as a drove, a flock or a herd. These are fairly recognizable words, but they are not properly applied to tribes of goats. (Reference)
